Hot and Cold Packs, Bentonite VolClay Filled
Sometimes the simplest remedy is the most effective, if applied in the correct manner. Hot and Cold packs used during therapy assist in minimizing damage to the affected areas by controlling the blood circulation.
The chiropractor always judiciously applies hot and cold packs to ensure the right amount of heat or cold reaches the area. The packs are always applied with a barrier, such as our terry covers, between the pack and the skin. This is to ensure the patient is comfortable and not at risk of burns.
Hot Packs and Heat Therapy – Heat therapy, also called thermotherapy, is the use of heat in therapy, such as for pain relief and health. Heat therapy induces vasodilation; dilating blood vessels which may help increase blood circulation. Blood drawn into the target tissues delivers needed oxygen and nutrients, and removes cell wastes. The warmth decreases muscle spasm, relaxes tense muscles, relieves pain, and can increase range of motion. Heat therapy is commonly used for dealing with chronic pain.
Cold Packs and Cold Therapy (Cryotherapy) – Cold therapy produces vasoconstriction by decreasing the blood circulation. Slowing the blood flow and other fluids into the injured tissue reduces swelling, muscle spasm, pain and inflammation. Cold therapy is commonly used to relieve acute pain. (Approximately the first 3-5 days of an acute injury).
Our Packs are ideally filled with Biodegradable Non-Toxic Bentonite Clay which is a Natural Hydrocolloid Filling.

What is Bentonite Clay? Click to review more details on how bentonite fillers work It’s composed of ash made from volcano. The largest known source of bentonite clay is found in Fort Benton, Wyoming, USA where numerous volcano are present. Bentonite clay stems back far in history as a traditional healing method for protecting the body from disease. It has been reported that several traditional cultures living in regions of the Andes, Central Africa and Australia have applied and consumed clays in numerous ways for centuries. Because the clay is readily available and required no modern processing, it has been a popular and cost-effective way of “detoxing” the body for quite some time.
How Bentonite Clay Works? We come into contact with a range of toxins numerous times every day, as toxins are given off from common products like paint, cleaning supplies, markers, substances used in building homes, low-quality un-purified water, and even pesticides that are widely sprayed regions that have farming present. It is quite common to inject a range of different toxins just by breathing in the fumes that are present all around us, not to mention the toxins that we receive from an unhealthy diet filled with low-quality processed foods. And “Heavy metal toxins” usually refer to substances like mercury, cadmium, lead and benzene. These can be found in the products previously mentioned, and also in foods that contain high fructose corn syrup or certain types of fish.
Benefits:
Bentonite clay is known to have an abundance of minerals, including calcium, magnesium, silica, sodium, copper, iron and potassium. It can benefit your body by helping to expel many of these toxins (thus as part of a heavy metal detox) and fight various pathogens responsible for disease, such as E. coli and the virus that causes staph infection. On top of being able to draw-out toxins from the body, the clay itself has a range of nutrients as well.
It benefits the body also because it has the ability to produce a charge that is electrical in nature when it comes in contact with liquid. This is similar to how earthing (touching your bare feet to the earth, in particular wet grass) works. When the clay touches any type of fluid (normally water), it takes on a different charge.

Who Benefits From Using Hot Packs?
Patients with certain conditions typically benefit from using hot packs in the physical therapy clinic.
These conditions may include:
- Arthritis
- Chronic pain
- Joint contracture
- Muscle spasms
- Chronic injury where increased blood flow is desired
After an injury, heat helps to increase tissue extensibility and improve the way your muscles move. As of that, anyone can benefit from using heat and hot packs as part of a physical therapy program.
How Bentonite Clay Compare with Silica Gel Desiccant in terms of benefits:
In most common package environments, bentonite desiccants offer a higher adsorption capacity than silica gel desiccants and are, therefore, a feasible alternative to silica gel. Bentonite clay is also a greener alternative to silica gel which takes considerably less
energy to produce. Clay desiccants are created by the controlled drying of calcium bentonite clay. This desiccant is chemically inactive, non-corrosive and all-natural clay.
It attracts and binds water molecules to its vast inner and outer surface area, making the adsorption capacity of bentonite considerable, even at low humidity levels. As the relative humidity in a container increases, the adsorption capacity of bentonite also increases.
At high humidity levels, bentonite takes in moisture much slower than silica gel and molecular sieve. This makes handling less of a problem.
Terry Covers Needed:
When the packs are removed from the bath, they are placed in covers we called it terry covers and placed on the patient. Our terry covers are designed in different sizes to fit your packs.
